My concern in paying a small minority of college athletes is what effect this would have on overall college athletics, which are largely not revenue-generating.
It seems to me, that (again, for a tiny fraction of teams), big-time college athletics no longer really even have much to do with the colleges that sponsor then other than sharing their name. Are these players even really students anymore? Do the teams do much for the school other than advertise their name? I wonder if a sort of independent junior-pro football and basketball leagues would be better.
Basically it depends on the situation. If the atheletes playing in some tournaments then depending on the rules and regulations they can be paid. But if they play in the college arena then i think they shouldn't be paid.
Absolutely not, They are probably there on a scholarship anyway. Should kids in middle school and high school get paid for playing sports? No. Playing a sport is a privilege, not a job.
no no they should NOT be paid for playing in college. They would then not pay enough attention to their other courses. They should only be allowed to play if they have an A-B average. But not for money. Those luck enough to make it to the pros will make MORE than enough money
Yes. If you are talking about football, basketball. They are always on T.V. and that costs a lot to shows. The pros only earn big money due to the T.V. rights. Why shouldn't college guys earn it too?
