No it isn't rude at all , in fact a master that doesn't actively spar with their students is very suspect of being a McDojo owner, exactly why wouldn't a master spar with their students?if they are indeed a master surely they would be able to spar using the appropriate intensity , if they're worried about hurting their students then all that huffing and puffing about how people get injured in training is nothing short of a lot of picking and choosing what aspects of martial arts suit their needs
It all depends upon how and why you ask to do it. If you are challenging him or her, yes, that's rude. If you ask to spar because you are working on something and you want your teacher's feedback on why it works or does not work, that is fine.
But don't believe " a master that doesn't actively spar with their students is very suspect of being a McDojo owner". Lots of times, a teacher may not spar because he or she
a) wants to see how you are doing with other students
b) needs to focus on EVERYBODY, and not just you
c) may not feel the class as a whole is ready for him/her to get his/her own work out in
d) may be tired from doing their own working out or competing
e) could be sick and not want you to catch their cold (especially when grappling)
You need to be careful, though, because some teachers are just as sadistic as some students are. They may thoroughly enjoy giving you what Rory Miller and others call an "educational beat down" if you come across as rude or arrogant. Is that right? No. But it is human. And it can happen in any "style".

Grr... not a big fan of calling anyone "master".
It depends on the environment. Some folks I've seen take it as an affront if a lower-ranking student asks to spar with them. In other places, everyone spars with everyone. I'm more used to the second environment, personally, but it varies from school to school.
I have sparred with my instructor before. He does not do it very often as he's the one leading the class, but he does. It's not rude, but I don't go up and ask him so spar. He told me that I would be sparring him, and I did.
I don't have a master. My instructor has a Master's Title. There is nothing wrong with sparring with him. He will spar with anyone and everyone. When we spar I hope to learn something from it.
It's very rude, an ultimate no no...wait for the master to give u the opportunity to spar with him or wait for someone else to ask that...why not spar with the other ppl in ur class?
Lol I've sparred with my instructor quite a bit. It's also a prerequisite when you're taking a high level test. For most students. It depends on the class though.
I agree asking is usually rude. But it depends on the school, and how/when it's done
And how do you define master? In our style on is not considered a master until 6th degree black belt. So one can study under someone and their sensei (instructor) is not "their master".
As for sparing with one's sensei, I would hope that your teacher would spar with you. It's always good to be humbled. And it allows them to work on certain techniques if they don't want to go too hard on you.
In my Kempo class I would spar with my instructor every single class. I personally don't think it's rude at all, but it depends on the culture. In certain cultures it could be a no-no, but in others, it's totally fine. I personally recommend it if you have the opportunity though. It's a great learning and teaching tool.
Instructor not master...Lol!!!
Normally no one should have any problem to spar with his/her students, so go ahead and ask him/her if he/she wants to spar.:)
If he/she doesn't want no problem either, you can spar with other people.
Or is it expected?
idk im tm schools it may be seen as disrepectful i know i never asked to spar my master but in mma schools its very common to spar your instructor we also do not call them master we call them by there first name sometimes depending on the school. but if they say there to deadly to spar with you there full of it and you need to find a new gym
I think its good to spar with your mentor here and there.
I never tap out my master out of respect. lol jk, he owns me all the time.
yes, don't doit.
