I'm 14, 5'4, and about 96 pounds, if that matters.
But... I've heard that gymnastics stunts your growth... I'm already pretty small up top (if you know what I mean) and I want to keep growing there, not just go on pause. Also, I think my height is kind of short, and I want to get a little taller.
So, is it true? Will I stop growing once I take it? Thanks!
Also, do you think my age/height/weight is good for gymnastics?
Gymnastics doesn't stunt your growth any more than basketball makes you really tall! Gymnasts that you see on TV are small because being small makes it a bit easier so small people are more likely to reach the top level. So, yes, you have a good body shape for gymnastics but that is actually less important than other attributes like strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and most importantly attitude and the time and effort you are prepared to put in. The good thing is that those are things you have some control over.
No, it doesn't stunt your growth in any way. Gymnasts tend to be shorter and lighter, so you may get that impression if you watch the Olympics, per se. Whether you grow more or not is up to your genetics, so while you are small I recommend trying it out.
Be warned: At fourteen you have most likely lost 99% of the flexibility you had as a child. If you are not flexible now it will be hard to get started. Gymnastics is hard work! It may look pretty and easy but most start from a very young age and take years and years to get half-decent. It's also much too late for you to compete.
Unless you are going to compete at the national level, as in practicing every day for six or so hours, then no, it won't stunt your growth. Also you're super light! I'm a gymnast, 5 foot 2, 12 years old and 108 pounds. Probably muscle...
You seem like you have the body for it and gymnastics doesn't actually stunt your growth or anything it's just that the gymnasts who go far are usually smaller
Well I dont think you are going to stop growing because my friend takes gymnastics and she is steel growing and if you are not kind of fat I can't see why you shouldn't
