Italy sweep all medals in the 2012 Olympics in Fencing
This has happen a lot in both summer and winter olympics
The USSR had done that in Gymnastics, but now they only let 2 per country in, so that can not happen again
Today it does not happen a lot, due to a lot of sports now only let two from one country in the finals
Track and Field is one sport that would let 3 for one country in the final
So, it could happen this week
In the 1908
France men Archery got all three medals
England got boxing sweeps in Bantamweight, Featherweight, lightweight and heavyweight
Fencing frence sweep Epee event
In the summer 1948
Final took all medals in men pommel horse (all three were gold, no other medals were given)
Diving men and women 3m diving USA sweep both events
Swimming men 200m breaststroke
That is just two olympics
It happened 3 times in athletics in the Beijing Games, US men in the 400m and 400m hurdles and Jamaican women in the 100m, though the Jamaicans actually got gold and 2 silvers as there was a tie for 2nd.
It's not possible in a lot of sports as there are limits on the number of competitors per country. For instance, track cycling now only allows 1 person per country in a race, in no small part because of Britain's utter dominance of the Beijing Games included finishing 1st and 2nd in 3 events and 1st and 3rd in another.
It's not particularly uncommon to see Kenya get 3 medals in the distance running events, steeplechase in particular.
a decent amount. not too often though. the usa swept the mens 400 in 04 and the 400 hurdles in 2008. i also think china swept in badminton 4 years ago.
Twenty years ago or so, it used to happen quite regularly - usually courtesy of the USA and the USSR.
These days it is thankfully rarer.
One country takes the gold , silver and bronze medals in an event ? And what events ? I wouldn't think that it happens all that often.....
