How do i get into the olympics?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
So after some soul searching, you decided you're going get you "not very athletic" self into the Olympics. That means you're going to beat out dozens of fellow countrymen at the one craft that they have dedicated their lives to. Good luck with that.

But just on the off-chance that those who have been doing that sport for decades remain better than you and you aren't selected for the Olympic team (at an as-of-yet unidentified sport), it may behoove you to search your soul some more.

Seriously, the first thing that came into my head when reading this was, 'this must be troll'. THATs how unrealistic your dream is. Im sorry to disappoint you, but the olympics is not just something you 'decide' you want to do, as you have done. There are people out there that have practically trained their whole lives for a shot at the olympics, and quite frankly, most of them fail. I know, it sounds harsh, but you've got no chance. Unless you started a sport at around 6 years old and have an INCREDIBLE talent for it, your dream is only gonna stay a dream. The people in the olympics like Tom Daley, Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt were all BORN to be olympians, and have amazing dedication towards their sport. And the fact that you think you can make it in 3.5 years is actually offensive to olympians, who have worked their butts off for that tournament every 4 years. I'm sorry buddy, you can try, but it will be either 8/12 years if you make it. Do you REALLY think you could take the gruelling training EVERYDAY for at least 4hours and over? on top of everyday life? All they do is eat, sleep, train. and if youre older that 18, dont try swimming or some sport like that, try shooting because it does not require one to be super fit, and therefore do not necessarily have to start young. Goodluck in yiur dreams pal, but the odds are completely against you..unless you're a 6 year old who has a yahoo account haha.

Well, you have no real sporting experience and the 2016 Rio Olympics is 3 years away, you have no chance sorry. Getting into the Olympics is very hard. Maybe, you can get into the 2020 or 2024 Olympics but not the 2016. You have to train with an Olympic sport, you like the most and hope to get into the 2020 or 2024 Summer Olympics.

You have no chance whatsoever. You're being completely unrealistic if you think you can take up a sport, become Olympic standard and get selected in 3.5 years. The selectors are already pencilling people in to the teams for the next games.

The luge isn't in the summer Olympics.

Highly unlikely

More often then not people dedicate their whole lives to get a shot at the Olympics and usually fail.

Well if you are not athletic then you have just a big enough chance as winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning.

Your best bet is the luge, train by increasing your body mass via eating lots of food.

working hard and making sacrifices.

putting aside the big mac

"not very athletic & have never really played any sports" ....uhhh, swimming??

Ive been doing some soul searching trying to figure out what i should to do with my life and Ive come to the conclusion i want to be in the Olympics. I am not very athletic and have never really played any sports but i am very tenacious, hard working and usually get what i set out for. I am hoping to get into the next summer Olympics through any sport. Is there any chance for me? If so what sport do you recommend and how should i go about training?
