Yes a small bag is OK. It must be able to fit under your seat, up to 25 litres whatever that is. It will be x-rayed first. By the way, dont take 6 magnums of champagne with you as they will be confiscated (yes that really happened).
In most cases the bag should be a problem. Yesterday I took a rucksack with me to beach volleyball and weightlifting. It was airport type security - all bags x-rayed, metal detectors, any liquids/gels in 100 ml bottles, etc.
However, the London 2012 site says - "If you're attending a Football event, we strongly suggest you do not bring a bag – if you do, your entry will be delayed and you may miss your event."
Just heard that they are expecting 75,000 at Wembley tonight, so if you do decide to take your bag, you will definitely want to arrive early.
ditch the rucksack ,and stop looking for attention and just bring your wallet and get a hot dog and coke like most other people......
I would imagine you can, but im sure it will be checked. I believe we were allowed to bring a small bag when we went to the winter games in Utah, but im not positive.
