Buying my first skateboard?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
I'm a girl and I really want to learn how to skate. Should I buy a cheap one since I'm just a beginner then invest in a good skateboard or should I start off with a good skateboard? If I do, what do I tell the skateboard sales guys? Do I just walk up to them and say "hey can u help me pick a skateboard?" Like I'm awkward and shy and have no idea what I'm doing but I really want to learn and try!! :)

Just get a cheapee one. They are only about $20 or less... maybe even a used one for $5. Walmart has good decent starting boards - only the kiddie boards with spongebob on them have plastic trucks. Kryptonics is a good starter board. I suggest this because 1) cheap boards don't roll as good and are easier to learn on 2) once you have a board you will get a feel for what you really want when it comes to a skateboard rather than spend a lot of money on what you don't want - skateboard shops will only tell you what THEY want, or what will make them money - everyone is different, once you get on a board, you'll know what's best for YOU. Really, skateboarding (cruising) is easy. It just takes balance and coordination. I find it interesting that females feel the need to say "I'm a girl", like it makes any difference whatsoever ( It DOESN'T!).

Start off with a good board. Don't get a Walmart brand and target their horrible. Get like a girl, real, or baker. Trust me this is how I started off skating I used all of my money and bought a complete and now I skate everyday and I'm getting really good.

I suggest you start with a good one. It's better and easier to learn with quality than a board with plastic trucks at walmart lol.

Definitely invest in a good board that your abilities can grow into and not be hindered by. If you are a girl who has never really skated, just buy yourself a short cruising board with soft wheels and a kick tail. Take that board everywhere, or let it take you everywhere. Learning the basics and building muscle memory takes a while and the best way to do that is by skating and

Having fun cruising. That's how I started. First long boarding, than downhill, now gnarly pool skating. Couldn't have done

It without the time and patience of just cruising.
