Posted at: 2015-05-07
Today at school we did the 1500m. I did it in 7mins 11 seconds. I know i can do better so i want to train but i can't measure out the distance anywhere so i wanted to roughly measure it on steps but i don't know how?

Useful information

I am a 14 year old girl

I ran the 1500m in 7mins 11secs

Height-1m 19cm

Weight-55.2kg

(sorry i don't know my pace length)

But yeah i would like to know how many steps i did it in! please help!

How many steps you take is not really important. Your speed is determined by the length of your stride and how many strides you take in a given distance.

In middle distance races concentrate on being efficient and running relaxed.

A common mistake is to try to take a longer than natural stride and that actually makes you slower not faster.

Run for time, if you do not know the distance you are running you should be able to feel how fast you are going so you have a general idea if you have run 1500 or not.

You can not count your strides, just relax and run easy, and run.

If you ran the race in 7 minutes then you could train for 7 to 10 minutes, as it is good to run a little farther than your race distance.

You will have to measure the length of your stride. But more importantly, you run faster in one of two ways. You either increase your stride or you quicken your stride. Think of jogging vs. sprinting. You should do interval training to increase your stride and cycle time. Run at your normal pace and then sprint hard for 50-100 yards, slow to jog, and then repeat. The sprinting helps open up your stride and trains your muscles to move faster.

Omg how are we supposed to know that, we woulda been able to work it out with your pace but with out its too hard... not impossible though if someone wants to spend the time

He's right it's possible but you will have to probably work it out yourself.
