YES GOD YES! It is NOT news and NOT important. People tend to think (just in like the Royal Wedding) that events like this is going to make all there problems go away and inspire the world to change for the better into some sort of Utopia. haha
Haha well, I probably am not going to get the best answer because I think the Olympic Games are necessary. Some sports such as baseball and ESPECIALLY golf, however, may be a bit too foreign for someone as young as me to understand so I am not as tuned in.
Personally I think the Olympic Games were never just about the sports. It is about connecting with the entire world and having fun with each other. With the tensions from wars in the Middle East and the crisis of the economy, we all need a break. And what better way to relieve some of that tension and escape from the cruelties of reality than an international event where everyone is tolerated, even if for a while :)
No, they are not stupid because they bring they unify the entire world and bring people of all religions, races, ethnicities, etc. together for a common purpose. Essentially, the Olympics creates a world in which differences can be set aside and everyone is treated equally--as human beings that can coexist peacefully. Even if this is only temporary harmony, it still gives the world something to celebrate and believe in. Aside from that, I do agree that there is really no point or purpose to sports, in that they do not accomplish anything for the greater good. Beyond the personal satisfaction and achievement they give the medal winners, they play no role in improving society. But I guess that is just a part of the athletic profession! Not sure if this was the answer you were looking for...but this was just my 2 cents.
The Olympics are good because it gives people the chance to connect and actually enjoy themselves. Maybe you don't like the sports bit, but the best things about the Olympics for me are the facts that
1: You don't care who wins. Everybody wants the home team to win, but after that it's just your favourite country.
2: To see their incredible strenght and speed or whatever at what they do. To see that they are the greatest at it. That they are the best in the world at their sport. That is an achievement few have had.
3: Just to see the underdog countries win something. Like China today getting golds in swimming. And the guy, if he didn't twirl his hand he would have beaten the world record. Ouch.
4: To see how happy they are when they win. Nothing better than seeing someone smile. Unless it's an evil smile.
You are a discrase! The Olympics date back to 1700's! dont u like sports? im sure u play baseball or basketball. imagine the honor of showing your passion and skills to the WORLD! Go on, laugh at the Olympics. Your country is probably not very proud of you. Then again, its a matter of opinion. but ya- table tennis is not a sport anyways so hate that 4 all i care.
I don't think so. I've always liked the olympics though I'm not a sports fanatic. To me, it's nice to see the world coming together peacefully, and it's nice to see the accomplishments of these young athletes.
Yes, it is absolutely pathetic! Not only have Britain fucked up twice already, also the parading of the 'Olympic' torch was originally a Nazi regime when it is made out to be a traditional Greek tradition so it just makes you think really, also my dads friend who is 70 years old wrote into our local paper stating this and also that he was going to protest against it (I will post the link) and the CID was at his house within seconds! So, what are they hiding?
Also I stated that Britain has fucked up twice already, There was a woman's football game in Glasgow 's Hampden park North Korea against Columbia and they put up the South Korean flag instead of the North Korean one, so the players walked off the pitch in protest. I really don't get how people can be that stupid as they hate each other and have been at war for years! Was this done deliberately? who knows.
Also another football match hosted at St James Park in Newcastle when nobody could get ahold of their tickets because all the box offices were shut apparently (only in Britain!) so many people wasted their hard earned money on tickets and missed the whole game, there were apparently 100's of people outside trying to get in but it didn't happen.
If the Sheeple continue to get hyped up with the games then they have no independent thought.

Its pretty much like footy. Some people cant stop watching. Others will run out of the room as it comes on tv. It is hugely a matter of opinion.
Personally I think sports are stupid. Everybody′s watching them like robots. It makes me sick. However It makes me laugh as well.
