What is Hedging in sports betting?

Hello.. I just come to know about the term hedging in sports betting and didn't understand much about it. Please help me to understand it.

Hedging is a strategy to reduce or eliminate risk by placing opposing bets on the same game. This is often don when there is a sudden loss of confidence in the original proposition. Say you make a on a team and then before the game it becomes known that the top player for the team you bet on won't play due to illness. In this case it is tempting to place an opposing bet at whatever odds are available to limit your loss. There are circumstances where bets can be placed to guarantee a net profit. Say you bet 10 at 10/1 on a 4 game accumulator. If your first 3 teams win in the position to win 100 or lose 10 on the 4th game. Any bet on the opposing team in the 4th game which has a stake of less than 100 and a profit of more than 10 ensures you a net profit on the day. While this is tempting, experts don't advise this as it significantly reduces your potential winnings.
