Recently when i play important football games i get cramp in my calf, i have had cramp before many times but recently my calf locks with my toes pointing down with no way to bring them back up. Today i had a cup final and about 70 minutes in this happened. A team mate tried to point my toes to me which would treat normal cramp but my foot would not move, this goes on for a few minute with the pain of normal cramp constantly there! It happens when i am not even tired, i am an extremely fit guy and have a good diet. I drink lots too and ensure i have enough salt in me. I am one of the physically fittest players on the team but this locking of the calf means i struggle to last 90 minutes. Why does this happen and how can i treat it? Do you perform stretching exercises prior to playing? I think that you are talking about Soccer, am I correct. If so, with all of the running that you do, you should stretch your leg muscles prior to taking the field. Ten to fifteen minutes to warm up should work for you.
