Should I join football or cross country ?

I'm a sprinter but track does not start yet.

Probably cross country it's more similar to track

Cross country.

What do you want to do? As a sprinter, your speed can be an asset to the team as a wide receiver, running back, punt/kick returns, corner back, safety, and maybe even linebacker, but you run more of an injury risk. On a Cross Country team, your experience will be an asset and the longer distances help you build endurance that sprinters generally don't focus on during the season. So if you're looking to be an asset to a team, you can go either way, but if all you're doing is staying in shape for track, do cross country.

If you want my honest opinion, you should join marching band instead.Anyone can sprint and run, but not everyone can march. In band, your forcing your body to do something it normally doesnt do, which is painful, but very rewarding.
