I stay hydrated, and I know its not because im nervous. But i always have a dry mouth on the field. I cant put my mouth piece in because it makes me gag. The refs always fussed cause i could never put it in all the way. I'm playing varsity this year and we hit alot harder than last year. I gotta figure something out. dry mouth syndrome, keep your hydration up, and look after your dental hygiene (will help alot).

Do as gym king says. As well do you or your family have a history of diabetes? This can also cause this problem.
