I haven't skated on a penny for long but, I've found for the short time I did that a normal skateboard is much easier. If you're looking to get a penny, you'd probably be better of getting an nickel board, same brand just bigger. Personally I'd recommend either a wooden cruiser board or a standard skateboard. You can also mod a skateboard, to make it more smooth. Get risers for your board, some longer hardware(nails) and longboard wheels. The riser is so you won't get wheel bite from having bigger wheels, I did that for my old board and it was pretty awesome.
NO!!! Penny boards are definitely not easy to ride. DON'T GET ONE. Get an actual skateboard or even a longboard / cruiser board. They are soooo much easier to ride because they have a larger surface area. Your feet will not fit on a penny board and so you wont have as much control. Also because 90% of your feet will be hanging off, it will be so uncomfortable to ride and your feet and legs will get really sore, really quickly.
Not really if it helps I learned to skateboard on a penny board the same day I bought it.
No, they're not. You just need good balance. Penny may be harder than another cruiser brand, simply because they are plastic and don't hold much weight. Get a wooden cruiser instead.
