Why is cheerleading not considered a sport?

Personally i think throwing 100 pound girls in the air is a little more impressive than throwing a 2 pound football in the air. Or riding around in a golf cart and hitting a tiny ball with a stick is considered a sport why is cheerleading not a sport

Simple answer in a sport it requires psychical activity cheerleading has that obliviously but you need a winner a loser or a tie which only competitive cheer has so that's probably it's not that it's unimpressive it's that you need a winner loser or tie so competitive cheer is sideline cheer isn't both physically demanding

Many people are correct cheerleading isn't a sport but thats only SIDELINE cheer. Like cheering at football games, not much athleticism. But COMPETITIVE cheer does indeed require flexibility, strength, and even endurance. You have to be able to run, jump, tumble, have balance, etc.. Many people don't know about All Star or competitive cheer, and focus on the stereotypical movies and TV shows. Sure, competitive cheer uniforms are a little "skimpy" but that's only because it's easier to move in and keeps you from getting too hot easily, because practices are INTENSE. Some cheerleaders even sweat more after a practice in just a sports bra and Nike pros, than a football player in heavy padding and such. Comp cheerleaders don't only focus on looks either. Most of us look like complete crap after performances or practice, and we don't care really.

I think so to ... I do competitive cheer and it requires a ton of acrobatics, I think that it is mostly because of media because every cheer leader that you see in movies or on tv shoes are preps who care nothing about themselves and popularity and all they do is throw pom Poms in the air.... but really it is alot harder than that.. as long as you consider it a sport and try your best then done worry about what the others say

Let me ask you a question: why do girls choose cheerleading when they could choose gymnastics? Answer: they wouldn't get to dress up snazzy with make-up on and perform in front of a crowd (i.e. boys). I get what people are saying about competitive cheer being as physically taxing as some sports; but it just has a silliness factor to it.

My opinion is that any sport that deducts points when a bow-ribbon falls out of your hair is not a sport.

because your job is just solely look pretty and be sexy

that's just how it is. besides, in american football you get hit.. a lot. you run, a lot.

i do agree cheerleading is pretty physical, but sex is as well but it's not really a sport.. legally. physical activity isn't enough for it to be considered a sport

i understand what you're saying.. but i think cheerleading is more like a dance. there's no opposing team, no scores. you're just the ones on the sidelines doing what you do best.. move around being sexy.

Cheerleading is a bunch of size 0 girls screaming and swingin' their pom poms. Not impressive whatsoever.

It should be.... it's the sexual end of sports......... and there's a LOT of aerobics involved in it.
