I think it's too late for China to overtake USA now. The Olympics closes on Sunday and there's still the Men's and Women's basketball finals to play which the USA are both competing in. Credit to USA though, they have been brilliant these games as have China but I just can't see them overtaking the States.
The sports China is good at are done. USA will win both overall medal and gold medal counts.

Most Gold - China (if any left for them).

First off, they aren't guaranteed golds, they still have to win their games. Second, it will be the USA. China's medal cache has run dry while the USA still has quite a few to get.
It is the golds that count, but US could beat China this time.
The US, as it is probbably only a matter of time until China are caught for cheating in some way.
USA, because the team sports haven't finished yet and the US is expected to do well in those. Team sports aren't a strength for China....yet.
It is too late. The US are short odds one favourites to get the most medals. Face facts it's going to happen...

The US has a big 90 to 80 medal lead. Is it too late for China to catch up? USA is also leading China by two gold medals. USA has two guaranteed golds in men and women's basketball. Are there any events left that China is favored in?
