Where did the Tornado Kick in Taekwondo originate?

The Tornado Kick, is primarily showcased in Taekwondo, but there seems to be nothing on how it originated and where. Other People in in Taekwondo are not really sure.

The jump/turning/crescent kick (aka, tornado crescent) is present in some of our black belt forms, namely, Chongkwon Poomsae, in WTF/Kukkiwon taekwondo. These forms are the original forms used by WTF and had influence from other styles.

Other tornado variants, such as the Tornado Axe, Tornado Roundhouse, Tornado Reverse Side, Tornado Spin, and Tornado Hook are all natural developments from the Tornado Crescent.

Some styles, like Kung Fu and Taek'kyon, are known influencers to Taekwondo, and these styles have similar kicks. It can be said that the kick could have originated from those styles.

Other styles do not have influence in Taekwondo, such as Capoeira, but who do have remarkably similar kicks.

Also, the "Tornado Crescent Kick" is typically referred to as the "Tornado Kick", lending to the idea that this was the original kick - that, and the fact that only the Tornado appears in a black belt form - and no other tornado variant.

It can be conjectured, then, that the other kicks were natural developments in the style, but the Tornado [Crescent] was probably borrowed from either Kung Fu and/or Taek'kyon.

Also, it's not unusual to see good soccer players throwing the Tornado Roundhouse kick; it is quite possible that Soccer was an influence to the kick as well. However, this being the case, we'd have the Tornado Roundhouse pre-dating the Tornado Crescent.

BTW, the kick isn't useless. In tournament, when landed to the head (as is the case with most crescents) you earn 4 points for landing it. On the street, because it's an X-axis kick, it can be used for a variety of purposes, such as disarm, pole/stick blocking, or strike. Like any kick, it's use must be practiced and be appropriate for the situation.

Wow... Tornado kick is one of the worst, most unrealistic kicks ever. Who ever created it was a fool.
