Should I learn Bjj or Muay Thai?

It is preferable to train in both of them as they are a great combination,But if you can only do one then i suggest doing Muay Thai.

Reasons why you should do Muay Thai instead of BJJ:

1.you are more like to be attacked by someone with a strike like a punch to the face, strikes are way more common so its more important to learn how to defend against a punch than learning to defend against an armbar.

2.If you chose to learn BJJ instead then you would be too limited,if you dont learn to defend all the strikes properly (which Muay Thai would be better for) then you wont even get the chance to use your BJJ because you wouldve already been beaten up or even Knocked out.

3.Striking arts are better for real life situations in the case of a multiple attacker situation. If you pull guard and try to triangle choke someone you leave yourself vulnerable to getting stomped in the face by one of his friends. If you trained Muay Thai youd be able to defend yourself while keeping the fight standing instead of committing to the ground so you will be a lot safer.

Both are good style but for self defense i believe Muay Thai would be better for you to learn especially considering your age,you still have a lot of time to learn so once you learn Muay Thai you can go learn something else.

Both very effective martial arts. I have trained in both mauy thai and bjj and i currently only train in bjj. It depends on what you like more, if you like striking more then mauy thai, but if you like grappling and ground fighting,p and submissions then do bjj. Personally, id rather choke someone out then knock someone out lol. Since you want to learn how to defend your self, both are really good but most fights do start standing do have striking, but also, what if someone takes you down but you only know mauy thai? Then what are you going to do?

You also said you are small for your age, when you are small and training in bjj it can be frustrating cause its hard to grapple when you are with someone a lot heavier than you. So keep that it in mind too. I guess the best thing is to try both and see which one you like more.

Well, from what I have seen, Bjj, uses a lot of acrobatics, which is ok in an open space.

Muay Thai covers the whole spectrum. Personally I would go with Muay Thai.

Both places must have introduction evenings, go along, and see how you feel with both of them.

Also, you can use youtube to search for clips from both disciplines, so you know, more or less , what to expect when you visit the schools.

End of the day Grasshopper, its your choice, Not Ours.

There no Martial Art that can go against the assassination Fist "Hokuto Shinken"! =0

Personally i would do both of them, they complement each other beautifully.

Hey guys,

I'm 15 years old and i am small for my age( I'm a boy by the way)

I want to learn how to defend myself and there is 2 martial arts schools near my house

One of them is Muay Thai and the other one is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!

Which one should I choose and why?
