Hard to tell without any pictures. The Chinese did a lot of bad things to the samurai swords and literally destroyed them by engraving things in them, acid etch them to bring out the designs of the folding. I got a couple of those just as examples of the bad things you can do to a blade and how it ruins them and it makes your heart ache because you know they were once really beautiful swords and are now totally worthless. So while the Chinese hoarded these swords they also altered them to make them more marketable and in their ignorance ruined a great deal of them while others just rusted away in warehouses. Often the rust is under the surface and entered through tiny pits which makes the whole blade unstable. Depending on what kind of treatment your swords received it could be worth something or be totally worthless. WWII swords go anywhere from $300 - $1000 IF they have not been altered and are in good shape, little to no rust, no nicks and dings, etc, if they are signed, if they are old swords made into WWII swords to comply with the uniforms or if they were the mass produced officers swords. The ivory handles you describe indicate though that someone messed with them. Ivory handles were not standard to these swords. I am also not sure how you can tell how many times they were folded unless an expert looked at them and he would have told you if you had something of worth there. If you have a sword and you fold it only 10 times you end up with 1024 layers so you can see why I am a little skeptical about the being folded 200 times. Also the mass produced officers WWII swords were not folded.
I have a set of 4 SAMARI swords Ivory handles and metal folded blades 200 times ?? Given to my grandad for services to China in world war 2 . Does anybody SERIOUSLY KNOW WHAT folded metal means and are they worth ANything
China did not make samurai swords, and that picture you have is not of a samurai sword. As LionDancers said the Chinese would ruin the value of samurai swords
Folded metal is done during the forging process, they would fold the metal repeatably. The value of a sword depends upon the sword smith, the era in which it was forged and dozens of other factors. It could be worth $50 and up.
WWII swords were mass produced and of low quality most are not worth much.
China never made katanas. Liondancer already gave you good points. And last, the picture you showed does not depict a samurai sword/katana.
I have been given some SAMARI swords which were given to my grandad for services render in China . These have writings on the side with Ivory handles and folded metal 200 times . WHAT DOES THIS MEAN ??? And are they worth anything ????
