You must be watching the London Olympics in an alternative universe. We don't have that many golds yet. In a country of over 300 million people that supports its athletes both financially and emotionally, it isn't really surprising that we do well. Many of the countries competing in the Olympic Games have little or no financial support for athletes, a much, much smaller population from which to select athletes, and often have rules preventing athletes (usually female) from participating in games.
