I want to pick up a sport! Teenager?!?

Hi I'm 14 and really want to start like volley ball or basketball or any other sport but I have no expirience and I am not very good at sports. Is it too late for me to learn? I just want to do it recreationally not as a future career. Also how can I do it? Like how do I join the sport.

Badminton and Squash are good sports to learn.

They keep you fit the same as any other sport, but because they are solo affairs it is much easier to find a matchup at the appropriate level and you only have yourself to be ashamed of if you lose.

Any sports club or school will have information on badminton and squash.

If you want to be different, you might choose to get involved with a minority sport.

Even if you're not going to be a worldbeater, these sports need their non-elite adherents to help support them financially and emotionally. Examples might be curling, judo, kayaking, and so on.

Now for the real dope. Why do you want to do sport? There's got to be a reason. My suspicion is that it's not entirely about acclimatising to an exercise regime that will keep you fit and active for life. (squash and badminton are great for that).

My sport as a youth was boxing. The fitness requirements are extreme. It's a solo sport which matched with my personality. The discipline required and humility required are both great aids to the development of your personality. It's a popular sport, especially amongst the working classes, so if you're not the dregs of society, you have to work even harder to prove yourself. It's also a great wake up call into real life as opposed to the fantasy existence that most kids are given by their parents and peers. There are probably more boxing clubs around than squash clubs, but you might struggle to get so as much help from your school. If you have a good PE teacher, then he/she will be able to help, but a lot of them are scared of recommending contact sports to under 18s. Look in local papers, yellow pages and such sources if you don't already know someone in a club.

Of course its NOT too late for you to learn a sport. First choose the sport you want to do (volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, swimming, golf, cheer leading, hockey etc) and then just join. It will be worth it trust me. I joined the lacrosse team about 2 years ago and I have learned alot and I am a good player, so you are never too old to learn.

Good Luck.

it's not too late.

it just depends if were you live has any sports or anything.

volleyball, basketball, softball, and cheerleading are all great sports but it's up to you to choose.

I just started cheerleading and I had no experience but now i'm pretty good.

just remember to not give up on your dreams and do what you love!

I say you practice first and get better . its never too late to learn but alot of the recreations look for talent in players so really get the hang of it . Also ive played basketball all my life (im 17) & it really pisses me off when someone doesnt know what theyre doing >.< lol . So just practice and get better . You have your whole life to play(:
