How do you get in the olympic trials?

Does someone ask you? Do you sign up? How do you get there?

Each sport has its own path to the Olympic Trials. American Olympians come from all over, from big cities and small towns. Contrary to popular opinion, they were not raised at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado.

Kids who do well at the club and school levels are invited to compete at higher levels of competition. Those who excel at those levels are invited to compete at a national level. Those who sustain excellence at that level of competition are invited to the Olympic Trials.

Like I said, there are variations for each sport. But in a way, all paths are the same. It takes hard work, talent, and excellence to get an invitation.

The governing body of each sport determines who is invited to their trials.

The Olympics has performance standards that must be met for any athlete to compete in the Olympics.

This limits the field so that events can be finished within the time frame.

In some team sports you must be invited to a camp to try out for the team, since there are no standards that can be judged as to who is the best soccer or basketball player.

I'm assuming you're talking about gymnastics since it's on right now?

If that's the case, you must compete every level in gymnastics, qualify into elite and compete at the U.S Classics. From there, you must qualify to Visa Championships which is a qualifier to the Olympic Trials.

by winning national competitions at lower levels then scouts check you out and send you to the trials if youre good enough
