Could I be a flyer in cheer?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
I'm 5'7 and weight like 128-130 pounds and I wanna try cheer leading. I'm 13 years old and I want to start during highschool. I want to be a flyer because its fun, and they are the center of attention. The base girls or whatever seem to me like "fatter" and stereotypically "uglier" so could I be a flyer?

Usually when coaches pick flyers they are usually shorter than 5'7 but sometimes height has absolutely nothing to do with flying it all depends on how tight you can be in the air and how easy it will be for you pull those body positions up in the air

Impress your coach and then maybe you can get a chance to fly :D

btw im 15 going on 16, 5'2 110 lbs and a base there's nothing wrong with being a base :p

Originally when I read the beginning of your question I was going to say, "Sure! Everyone should have a shot at every position. You never know when you might be better at a different position!"

But then I read the rest of what you wrote. You're talking about high school cheer, which I guess is 'stereotypically' not as intense, but whattheatcualfuck. You don't deserve to even be on a cheer team. To downgrade bases like that and make flyers seem like snobbybitches is awful. Don't even try out for the cheer team.

well yes but its not all about the attention it can be stress full and not all bases are like that im built with a six pack way 90 pound base and fly so it is possible but don't get cocky because you need to be a good sport to get the job and nicely talk about things to fix and work on in a stunt and you have to have all those great facials and great balance also have to be able to pull the forms but yes you could be a flyer im both and lift people who are 100 to 107 pounds and fly as one of the lightest people

depends how flexible you are! you sound more like a backspot because of your height! im 5'1 and a flyer but the tallest flyer on my team is 5'5! good luck anyway!

If you're good you can get into whatever position you're best at. But considering your height my coach would probably put you as a back spot but it all depends on the coach
