Back handspring fear help!?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
I have my back handspring with a spot, a light spot. but I'm just so scared to do it on my own! I'll do the set up and stop! I dont understand why i do this and it makes me so angry! Is there any tips you can give me to get out of this habit, I just need to get over the fear, I know, Ive been working on it for a long time and I just want to get it! Ugh it makes me so mad!!! Please help!

Try doing it with a spot and have your coach yell, "go!" or "now!" as a cue to jump back into it after you go into the sit. Once you have done that a few times to develop the association try it without a spot but with the same cue.

I just got mine without a spot and my first one was so scary. I had a similar problem, but my coach told me I was going to have to do it by kyself or I wouldnt ever move up(she said this because I work better under pressure) and that if I really wanted to know it for xheer, I would have to do it by myself or I wouldnt have it down in time. Anyways do it on a tumble track or trampoline by yourself (with your coach there to catch you just in case something was to happen) first because the worst that could happen is you get caught land on your arms, on a tramopline there is no pain,. Once your comfortable throwwing it by youself and your coach say your ready to do it on the groung just trust them, they wouldnt tellnyou to do anything if they weeent sure you could do it by yourself. If youre really ready just dont doubt yourself, go for it! If that didnt help then do it with a light spot and to mentally prepare yourself, think to youreself there is no spot, then if you mess up oh well because you had a spotter and if you get comfortable with that, pretty soon you'll get it with no spot! Good lick, just trust yourself :D

I started out on my own trampoline. I has absolutely no spot. Just myself. Just try to jump backwards while looking at your hands the whole time. I learned mine in less than 6 minutes while doing this. But it will take probably 20 minutes to master it after.

My friend had the same problem. She couldn't get it until I made her do it on a mat. Now, she is doing them everywhere. It will just take courage and a little ounce of skill. You'll get it though!
