What does a list manager do?

Is it like a coaching role or more sort of player management?

Well they have two sides - the recruitment and the monitoring of success and failure of the recruitment. Recruitment wise they'd spend a lot of the year floating around looking at kids they've heard about, studying them and assessing the fit. Remember up to 100 kids come up for consideration each year - that's a lot of research to do. I know at Geelong they meet the kid, the parents, the club they come from. It's not like you and I - we look at the list a week out from draft and go - oh yeah, he sounds good. They'd also need to monitor the progress of the existing players to a) understand how their recruits have gone - to see if they've had wins or mistakes (and to correct mistakes) but also b) to understand what the club is missing - part of which would be decided by the football dept manager. More to it I'd reckon. We're talking about businesses that turn over up to $50 million or more a year, so yeah - fairly serious stuff.

This is my job the best free agent List Manager alive. BOOM!

List manager manages the list, sounds too simple, but they are generally responsible for the recruiting of players to the club through the draft and trades.
