I was watching the news today and they said that if Hawthorn matched Sydney's ten million he would have to stay with Hawthorn. i can understand this if Franklin still had time on his contract but as a free agent how come he would still be tied to Hawthorn? Isn't that the purpose of being a free agent that you can go where you want to. This is how it works in football, rugby and league.I was watching the news today and they said that if Hawthorn matched Sydney's ten million he would have to stay with Hawthorn. i can understand this if Franklin still had time on his contract but as a free agent how come he would still be tied to Hawthorn? I believe it's restricted free agent that he comes under. It basically comes down to how long you've been at the club for. This explains it pretty well. If I'm remembering right, he comes under the 8 or more years, top 25% and first time out of contract.
