Are suspended AFL players allowed to play in the reserves?

are they allowed to play in the reserves whilst they are suspended in the AFL?

No. Suspended players are suspended from all footy. They may only train with the club. EDIT: A player suspended by his own club could play anywhere the club allows him too, that's different from an AFL Tribunal suspension.

I always thought not, but i'm now confused after reading where AFL suspended Pearce Handley travelled north last week with the Lions NEAFL reserves team ? I understood it to read he was playing, but it may well have been simply just in a non playing support role for the team ? Its hard to follow what the rules are these days . Fevola and Ackermanis before him, seemed to play with a different country league team every week ? Dunno how that rule works either now , always thought players had to be registered with a club ?
