Is Todd Helton a Hall of Famer?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
He will or won't be a Hall of Famer until his name appears on the ballot five years from now and thenh depending on his percentage of votes over a 15 year period.

NO!, and what follows documents why!

Home: 1132 games, AB 4000, Runs 867, HR"s 225, RBI's 850, BA .345, OBP .442, Slg. pct .607

Away: 1103 games, AB 3913, Runs 547, HR's 142, RBI's 547, BA .287, OBP .386, Slg. pct. .470

A really large difference.

Now you can see what Coors Stadium can do for a slighty above average first baseman when he plays at home. All the way from a near great hitter to a just barely good hitter when on the road.

Really great hitters hit everywhere they play, not just at home.

Todd Helton's career is definitely not that of a Hall of Fame player.

Coors Field: The House that Helton built

I like Todd Helton. He's had a great career and is a good person, but unfortunately, he is NOT a Hall of Famer and here's why:

Todd Helton played 17 seasons with the Rockies, all while they played their Home games at Coors Field.

Career Plate Appearances, AtBats, Home Runs, Batting Avg., On-Base %, Slugging %, OPS

Home: 4841, 4038, 227, .345, .441, .607, 1.048

Away: 4600, 3913, 142, .287, .386, .470, .856

^

| Look at the difference in slugging %. The total at bats are almost even, so its clear these numbers aren't the result of a low sample size

Conclusion: I think its pretty clear that playing his whole career at Coors Field has helped his numbers alot. If he had played his whole career in a pitcher's park, would he still put up those insane home statistics? Overall, his career is very similar to that of Don Mattingly; Early on, he put up amazing numbers and it looked like he would be a HoF for sure, but his power numbers started to tail off after he turned 30. Coors Field will factor HEAVILY into the voting of the writers; Larry Walker has been on the HoF ballot for 3 yrs. and he hasn't even eclipsed 25% yet.

So, Helton won't be in the group of the greatest 1B of all time, but he still has alot to be proud of.

No I answered this earlier. His career numbers are similar to Kiner, DiMaggio, and Clemente but that is where the comparison ends.

It is the Hall of Fame not the Hall of the Really Good.

No great player and guy not hall of fame worthy.
