How to get extremely athletic?

Gaining some fitness before going off to the military is a good thing, because a lot of people have gone into training unfit and are always sent back home when they can't cut it. The Army really need fit people, not lazy and fat people. Unfortunately, now a days they're taking just about any asshole who can wear the uniform. That's what I saw anyway with a lot of new recruits.

What you need is a routine, and you have too STICK to that routine. Join a gym, or just run 1 mile a day to build up fitness. Buy some small weights and check out some youtube workouts you can try. Harden your muscles. Perform at least 40 push ups a day to build up your strength. You don't want to do anymore because you would want the energy to keep going. Perform 40 sit ups as well. Add 5 more to those two every week to really keep up the training.

Sorry, you can't get "unhuman".....You're pretty much stuck with the limits of humanity.

Now, the military has changed a lot since I was a young lad in the infantry back in the 60s. Back then, if you could run and do bunches of pushups you were pretty much set for basic training.

Oh, chin-ups and crawling.... Yes, crawling. Big part of the PT test, and always the most unpleasant for me.

Frankly, I don't know what the guys are doing now. Why not ask some vets? Find out what contemporary basic training is like and train for that.

One thing modern GIs do is carry LOTS more weight around than we used to . Body armor, weapon, ammo, radios.... You might invest in a weight vest and work on speed walking up hills.

Military Style Training

Focus - Intense Cardio, Stamina, Strength to Weight Ratio, Power

Here is a goal:

1. 80 pushups in 2 min

2. 80 situps in 2 min

3. 2 mile run in 14 min or less.

4. 5 mile run in 36 min or less

5. 10 mile run in 38 min 30 sec or less.

6. 15 mile road march with 50lbs of gear in boots

7. 1/2 mile ruck run. 50lbs.

8. 20 pullups or chinups

9. Swim 500 yrds

10. Continue to hit weights. Do not go heavy. It's the military, you will not do much weight training. If you bench press, bench 20lbs over your bodyweight, do dumbell curls, etc.

That's usually the basics in the military to be "competitive". If you have no problem doing the above, than you are good to go.

Martial artists aren't the best experts on athletic conditioning. Your genetics plays a large factor on speed, power and reflexes unfortunately. Everyone will say that they want to have inhuman capabilities, but working towards unrealistic expectations makes most "dedicated" people quit. The military will make you into a soldier IF you are dedicated to that cause. It's good to be prepared, but don't expect to get advice on becoming the next Navy Seal on here.

I understand what you mean. You want to be like bruce lee: not too muscular, not too thin. Focus on cardio (running, kickboxing), muscle building (weight lifting, eating right), endurance (push ups, as well as more running), flexibility (stretching), and for reflexes I would say sparring under a good martial arts instructor (the style does not matter nearly as much as the teacher).

You should gain muscle slowly but evenly. I have been doing everything except for the muscle building and am super lightweight, but have good reflexes (sometimes too good, your forms come out in the weirdest situations), endurance, and cardio. For flexibility I am close to being able to throw kicks to the head!

Run 2 1/2 miles uphill. No seriously, although take it easy on the way down to spare the knees.

Weight training, calisthenics, sprints, hills, long distance running, and sports

Just play lots of sports

You don't need to be athletic for the millitary. Not that it would help you much anyways(Probably a little).

They'd cover it for you in the army.

I'm trying to get athletic for the military, I wanna be a soldier before I become a soldier and I'm trying to get unhuman with it x) lol I want unhuman speed, strength, & reflexes and when I say strength I don't want to be a giant muscle head...how can I get this...I'm pretty sure only a martial artist knows this?
