How long will someone be out if choked?

10-20 seconds is a good mark. I have seen people take longer though. The choke does not just disappear after you come back to. Often after you have been choked out all your senses are overloaded and it can take quite sometime to gain back control of your senses. I have seen someone choked out and he was out for maybe 30 seconds. it was a great choke and when he came to he was looking at us all dazed. We ended up finishing chatting about the next drill and and then began to do the drill and half way through the drill a few minutes later he collapsed. he sat out the rest of the class drinking water and the fan on him in the corner.

If you hold onto the choke for longer after it has been completed then they will stay out much longer, because you are stalling the blood more. the problem is the reason why you pass out is because the brain is lacking blood and switches into safe mode to protect it from harm until the blood is soon restored. IF the blood is not restored immediately it begins to cause brain trauma. To much trauma is brain damage and death. This is why if they go out then its all over and you hold them steady until they come to. If it is a self defense setting then 30 seconds is plenty of time to flee the scene before they have gain some senses.

KW is correct on his assessment about the problems. What is funny is that it used to be part of training in TMA to be choked out so that you knew what it felt like and would never do it to another human. My first real teacher did a Jugular version of the choke which left my eyes read for over a week. He told me to help to count to three, I think I got to Th... I woke with a bite guard on a mat. He told me later that some people go into spazms later and he did not want me to bite my tongue or hit my head. Be careful

On average 3-7 for a good strangle its different to a choke Chokes attack the wind pipe/crank the neck/cut of blood they vary greatly in how long it takes for them to put you out and are the most dangerous of all chokes and far my dangerous than any type of limb lock in my opion.

Yeah, hold the choke longer. But you hold it close to a minute you might kill him.

Oh man that's not good.

OK, so you applied a rear naked choke for 10 seconds. He's out. How long until he wakes up? As far as I know between 5-20 seconds. But is there a way for it's effect to last longer. Just curious.
