Give up Drew Brees in a trade?

Would you give up Julius Thomas for Drew Brees straight up? My current QB is Jay Cutler. My current backup TE is Martellus Bennet

You probably need to do some kind of trade, because you spent too many of the early rounds loading up at QB and TE. This just isn't smart.

But this trade doesn't help you at all. A QB/WR combo isn't necessarily doubling points. You could get Damarious Thomas with equal value. What it does do is double your risk. If something happens to one, the other is negatively impacted. Just look at what happened to Matt Ryan last season when Julio Jones went down.

So don't chase after this. If you've got Rivers, you don't need Brees. In fact, Brees can't be started in many road games (just look at his stats from last season). So what you need is a guy like Cutler to go with Rivers, but it doesn't have to be Cutler. There's a ton of solid matchup QBs this season - Ryan, Romo, Stafford, Luck, Newton, Wilson, RGIII, etc etc.

Another option is trade out one of those TEs. You're on overload at that position.

I'm assuming you did your homework before drafting this team so why are you willing to blow it up so quickly. Brees is an elite QB and Bernard is better than Ball. Adding Marshall will not offset those losses.

And what happens when Cutler gets injured or decides he wants to take a couple of games off? Then you're screwed.

Everyone is predicting a big year for Cutler but the punk is going to have to prove himself before I drink that Kool-Aid. You have a known, valuable commodity in Brees so hang onto him.

Or to put it another way, if Jay Cutler,Brandon Marshall, Montee Ball, and Jordan Cameron are so good why is the guy willing to trade them for three players?

NO NO NO ....... play Decker, let it play out for a few weeks. Cutler does not have the upside of Brees. I've had Brees put up 40 -50 point games( several times!). Cutler will never do that.

I would make that trade, Marshall and Ball and probably both going to put up solid numbers for sure, and cameron is included. It looks pretty even to me though because thomas is also good, but I'm not sure brees will have that good of a season as he's getting up there in age.

I'm currently weak when it comes to my wide receivers and this is the trade I was offered.

I get: Jay Cutler,Brandon Marshall, Montee Ball, and Jordan Cameron

I give up: Drew Brees, Giovani Bernard, Julius Thomas

I realize losing Brees is a big blow, but here's my current roster. I don't like Crabtree playing on a run first offense and I don't like Decker playing on a terrible Jets offense. Marshall is never injured and I would get the Cutler/Marshall combo. Bernard is good, but I feel Ball will have more touches/game and Cameron is the #1 receiving threat on a Browns team that will be playing from behind a lot this year. Also, I have Rivers as my backup QB, so even if Cutler gets hurt, I've got a 4000+yd 30+ QB if he repeats last year's numbers.

QB: Drew Brees

RB: Giovani Bernard

RB: Andre Ellington

WR: Michael Crabtree

WR: Cordarrelle Patterson

TE: Jimmy Graham

FLEX: Julius Thomas

BN: Eric Decker

BN: Mike Evans

BN: Joique Bell

BN: Toby Gerhart

BN: Terrence Williams
