That's been a rumor for years. i am from San Jose and i hope they don't come here.
How is it possible? the stadium is falling apart, and it's always been unpopular with the fans, because of the *huge* amount of space in foul territory. The A's have tried to get another ballpark built in Oakland, but the amount of money soaked up by the Raiders (to build the now unused Mt. Davis) killed that.
Then they had a deal done to build the new ballpark on the west side of I-880 in Fremont (with a naming rights deal from Cisco Systems!), but some locals who live a couple of miles away managed to kill that. This was back in the days when just saying the phrase "tea party" made any local politician afraid to move.
Now the A's are aiming for the money and tech center of the Bay Area, San Jose. There is a plot of land set aside, just south of the Diridon train station. The deal with Cisco is still in place. There is a new design for the ballpark. The only problem is that MLB has decided that San Jose is the territory of the Giants, according to some weird deal done in the late 60s. The City of San Jose is now suing Major League Baseball, claiming an unconstitutional restraint of trade. The first judge dismissed it, saying that he does not have the power (or courage) to rule on the constitutionality of the case. It's just the first rung of the ladder up to the Supreme Court.
I gave you a link to the Skyscraper City thread on the whole thing below. It's a long thread, with lots of neat pictures. It's all there.
Oakland City Council has roughly 4 moths to approve a new stadium area for all three Oakland sports franchises. This would give the Raiders and A's separate stadiums, and the Warriors a new basketball arena. In the past the city of Oakland hasn't been very cooperative with the A's wishes to build close to the bay.
Yes, it's possible. But MLB is dragging its feet in getting this to a conclusion.
Moving out of Oakland would mean changing the A's name from Oakland A's to ________ A's. Just like removing Philadelphia and Kansas City the last two times the A's changed cities.
Yes it is possible
The stadium is falling apart
and if nothing is done real son they will be moving their ..if they get a legal battle out of the way
or they just might move to another city
I've heard and read that they might move to San Jose, how possible is it that they'll leave oakland? if they do leave will they take oakland out of their name?
