Why are the paralympics less popular than the olympics?

I was thinking the same thing! I noticed that the olympic torches for the paralympians are silver, whereas I would have thought they'd have been the same as the other torches (i.e gold).. I was also surprised to find that it's moved to Channel 4.. But to answer your question, I think I'll find the paralympics more interesting due to the fact that the paralympians have different dysfunctions and have adapted to undertaking sports to such a high level.. I find it fascinating if I'm honest :) It's a shame that it isn't as hyped up as the olympics were, but I think it's great that the paralympians are still allowed to compete together in such a big event.. They're given the attention and respect that they deserve and although it's still seperate from the olympics, there's still a nice taste of equality :)

People just wanna see the best of the best in the world. The strongest, the fastest, the most coordinated, whatever the sport may be. Paralympics are a good event also but I don't think it will ever be nearly as big as the olympics unless maybe they added some type of strange twist too it

I guess! That's the main point of the dislike between the Olympics and the Paralympics, Paralympian athletes just aren't as exciting to watch as Olympian athletes :/

I know I don't c y people don't watch the paralympics, but I think it may either be because they have already seen the first Olympics so the the cant be bothered to watch the 2nd or because they might not be bothered to watch paralysed people :(

Anyway

Hope this helps :D

Because the athletes are no where near as good, less sports/countries involved and some people get put off by the 'freak' factor.

Just because the words are the same doesn't mean they're equal. You can't say they're both trying to win. That would be like saying you would watch me play a sport, just as you'd want to watch the world champion/team champions. As Carl Sagan said, bits aren't always equal value.

I know the paralympics were invented after the olympics, but all the athletes from both the olympics and paralympics have the same aim, to be the best they can be in their sport and try to win gold. Does everyone who watches the olympics tune out just because they aren't able bodied?
