I do believe that pro sports figures are overpaid but I also think some of our government officials are overpaid as well. Like others have mentioned why do sports figures get paid more than our veterans whom have served our great nation.

Yes. Our service men and women who risk their lives daily are not paid well at all. Many vets are homeless in their older years. So why should someone who tosses a ball or whatever make more than the people who risk their lives to help the rest of us live in peace?
Athletes are entertainers, they get what someone is willing to pay, just like actors and musicians they are paid much more than their value to society, but that is not a factor in determining how much they make,
Obviously someone thinks they are worth what they are paid or they would not make that much money.

If by being over-paid jerks, wife beaters, and substance abusers, no, they earn every penny for that.
