How can I become an Olympian athete?

Me too but for track specifically long jump!

The first step is to be the absolute BEST on your school team, outside of school team, and make city records if you live in a small town like me ha.

Training will have to be 7 days a week. Olympians go to school for half a day to train the rest of the day. Get a special trainer. Work hard all the time. No excuses for not training. Unless you caught some mutated form of the bird flu, or that disease off of Contagion. Then maybe you don't have to.

Do your absolute best all the time, what's practice? Act as if you are going to the Olympics everyday. Then your best and maximum score will increase, because you are doing your best all the time, thus exercising your abilities and stretching them, if that makes sense.

Go for volleyball. I didn't even know basketball was an Olympic sport aha but I guess if bouncing on a trampoline is anything is possible.

Beach volleyball is when you wear basically a bikini and play with one other girl, if my facts are correct. I was at my uncles house with my dad, and when they heard beach volleyball was coming on they stayed on that channel instead of going back to golf. When they saw it was men's they were disappointed. In my opinion, do indoor, because I just think it's a bit more intense, and the guys aren't just watching to see you bounce around in skimpy clothes outside with 3 other girls. And they can get away with it too with wives and stuff. Just cause it's the Olympics.

For endurance, go running. Start with one mile one week, running every other day. The next week, run a mile every day.

The next week, run 2 miles a day. Then 2.5. Then 3. Keep doing that until you are at 5 miles. If you want to build up more, go for it. Can't run too far, as long as you keep healthy. Running is an all around work out. It will strengthen your core, arms, legs, basically everything.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what the qualifying thing is for volleyball. Or basketball.

Ask this question again when you are the best on your team, and have top notch endurance. Also getting into some state and national competitions under your belt. Hopefully winning first place :D

Also, just so you know, you will NOT be ready for the 2016 Olympics. Just for a reality check. Also, how old are you?

Ok first of all understand that the chances of you making any Olympic team are slim without your parents training you at the age of 9. However I will help you out:

Take volleyball over basketball: since you have started late, you can focus on the sport that relies on a less range of skills but more emphasis on each skill. Furthermore, you will have more competition if you go into basketball as it is more competitve.

Next, figure out your height by the entrance of Olympic age. For women, if you are 5'9 and under, you are the back court player. Focus on being able to run the field as your partner will be at the net to block the ball. If she does not, it is on you to get to the ball. Furthermore, you are expected to create a powerful serve: this training will also help your spike too.

If you are over the given height, you will be controlling the front court. Focus on learning ball travel and be able to stop the kill shot by blocking it at the net. Moreover, learn how to diagnol your shot: it sounds simple but virtually every rookie simply aims down a power shot, which will not always work.

Conditioning: get in shape. You can keep weight as long as its muscle and you are cut, not muscular. Endurance is so important, so be able to run suicides and sprints over 3 miles: as you will be running back and forth at burst of speeds. Strengthen your forearms for attacks.

Best of Luck

well, my 1st advice is to pick a sport. 2nd, realize you arent going to make the olympics. i dont get where people why random people think that just because they watch it realistically think theyll get in if they train hard enough in 4 years without any prior training. plus, you didnt even say how tall you are or how old. in sports like volleyball and basketball, you should be at least 6'. and most will go pro before even getting a shot to qualify for the olympics.

edit:

im thinking realistically considering ive been training in track since i was 8 (im 19 now) and from middle school on, i was one of the more elite runners/jumpers in my state and nationally and im doing it collegiality and im just average. its not putting you down, its called being realistic. if you cant even pick a sport, how do you expect to even be one of the best in the world? especially in a sport like basketball where you can be an all-star and not even make the team.

Honestly except for the basketball teams (which are pro all stars) they start at about age 3/4 training and win local star national and world tournaments before being able to be in Olympic qualifying events. Sorry but from an athletic perspective I think you're too far behind if you're not already an ELITE athlete (competing nationally) already. I think you could possibly compete in archery or shooting since they have out of shape grandpas in that so you'd be easily able to "catch up"

You have to be the best at whatever sport you wanna do. For example the Basketball team only takes the best of the best.(Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, etc...)(same goes for women)

Be a top quality DIV1A college player & be selected for the national team.

I don't know if my current dream has been fueled by all of the 2012 Olympic hype, but I really want to participate in the Olympics! I want to know how you would even qualify to be on an Olympic team (USA FTW). What would I need to do? Stuff like that.

The sports that I would like to participat in for the Olympics (I know it is a pick one and be done deal, but I'm not really sure yet...) would be basketball or volleyball (I'm a girl btw). And then beach volleyball or indoor volleyball? How would I qualify, where would I need to qualify, and stuff like that.

Also, what would I need to do in order to be good enough? I'm a pretty decent volleyball and basketball player, but everyone needs to practice. Also my endurance is good, but obviously not top notch. What would be some good ideas to boost my endurance and strength, ect.

Please I'm trying to be serious here, no you will never make it crap. I just want to know where to get started. Thanks to you helpful people!
