ESPN has never covered the Olympics in the United States. And it's not slated to anytime soon. NBC has the broadcast rights of all Olympics (Summer and Winter) through 2020.

ESPN may cover the Olympics much as it does, say, the NHL, another TV contract it doesn't own. They'll show highlights on SportsCenter and occasionally bring in guests to speak of what's going on. But lately, ESPN has been more interested in promoting products it has broadcast rights to, such as the NFL, MLB, and NBA. It's given inordinate attention to products it owns, such as the X Games.
The earliest ESPN could cover the Olympics would be starting in 2022. ABC, which along with ESPN, is owned with Disney, would have to win the US broadcast rights. My guess is the coverage would be similar to NBC's coverage, with the mother ship (NBC / ABC) broadcasting events of highest interest to the American audience and cable stations (MSNBC, CNBC, USA / ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN Classic, etc.) covering other events.
I know ESPN Brazil did covered the London Olympics, but the NBC and NBC Sports network covers the Olympics in the US. But NBC coverage sucks, they put the Olympics on tape delay since 1988. I wish that after 2020, the NBC will leave the Olympics alone, just like what they did to the NBA in 2002. ESPN is own by ABC and maybe they would televise the Olympics live on TV.
Here in the US, no not really. NBC covers it which I WISH ESPN did. With ESPN all you'd probably get is clips and pictures from the Olympics, but NBC broadcasts it
They do but usually you get a bunch of pictures because nbc owns the olympics. That is why people want abc to own the Olympics. Abc owns espn.
I'd sure hope so, ESPN is the number 1 sports channel on cable.
