I think you will find that a lot of the players were conscripted but because they were playing VFL, SANFL or WAFL they didn't actually go, they did have to do national service though at places like Puckapunyal in Victoria, I know Royce Hart, Alan Noonan of Essendon and Graham Cornes of SA were top,flight players who did ' nasho' as it was called
