I'm new to betting on sports and i want to bet on afl as i know alot about it. I just don't understand line betting. I saw a market where you pick your own line. for example In the Hawthorn vs Geelong game if i choose geelong at line of +40.5 at $1.16 does that mean if geelong either win or lose by less than 40 points i will win the bet or lose the bet? cheersI'm new to betting on sports and i want to bet on afl as i know alot about it. A line bet is basically a bet where you pick a team and a margin. Betting agencies will normally display the even line, by which I mean the margin in which it's an even money bet. For example, this week in the GWS/Syd game, the line for GWS is +46.5 while for Sydney it is -46.5. The money each way is $1.92. This is to say that the odds of Sydney winning by more than 46.5 is the same as them winning by less than 46.5 or losing. You place a bet on which side it will go. From your example, by choosing Geelong you will win the bet if the cats win or lose by less than 40.5 as you have indicated.
