2,357 They are professional because they get paid, it doesn't matter if they are full time or not ^^^ Obviously in the AFL they Umpire one game a week, but in the Country Leagues, Umpires can officiate in anywhere from 1 to 4 games over a weekend, There are 3 leagues where I live, plus all the Junior leagues and I know from playing and coaching that Umpires can do a game on the Saturday and 2, sometimes 3 on a Sunday in the Junior League, that isn't apart of any of the 3 main leagues.
I'm guessing each ump does one game a week IF selected. They probably ump other grades as well though. It's actually a question I've wondered about too. Like ... do these guys actually practice? Because sometimes it doesn't show :-)

There are no full time umpires in the AFL, all have jobs as circus clowns or Lollipop ladies.
At the same time? I'd assume it's one.
