Height is part of genetics not martial arts, pay attention in school more and you will learn this
Never trust anyone because they tell you something. This doesn't mean it's not true. It means you should do a bit of research on journals on the web about this matter, see if there are any correlations between karate practice and the height of people, if there is, a correlation is still not enough in that you need causation too, to explain WHY it happens. Intensive exercise is not the same as martial art.
This is not a subjective question. The nature is objective. Therefore you've come to the wrong place where people give subjective answers.
Generally, any sport or physical activities that put any severe strain on a child's undeveloped body is to be avoided. Damage is not only restricted to their height development. Anything above moderate exercise for young children is not ideal, or even for anyone considering a long term healthy lifestyle.
This isn't the right place for your question. Non of the answers here including my own gives you any support. You want the right answer, start proper research and don't expect the false security of hear-say.
One person being affected by karate training for their height, isn't representative of the entire population and you. You might not, you might. Everyone will either say yes because they've heard a friend whose.....or no because this friend or themselves.......
It's not enough.
I've done Karate since I was like 7 years old and almost 20 years later, I'm 6'4". With the logic you were advised with, I should of grown more than 7' tall if I wasn't in Karate.
No offense, but that is absolutely ludicrous. When I was a kid I had an ankle injury that lead me to needing an x-ray of my foot. The doctor told me I was going to be tall. When asked why he thought so he said he could see it in the spacing of my bones. Height is 100% genetic. Karate will in no way effect height.
I have never heard anything like this except for the silly rumors that pop up on here from time to time. While I'm no biologist, I can't think of any reason why karate practice would mysteriously stunt someone's growth. I practiced it started at a young age, and while I'm only about 5'7", that's pretty consistent with the height of the rest of my family.
A teacher of what? Funny because kids play all kinds of sports many that are contact sports such as hockey and football and many grow beyond 6 foot.
My suggestion is that person has no idea of what they are speaking of.
Be now advised that the teacher advised you wrong.
One of my students went from 5'2" to 6'3" while training with me.
Didn't seem to slow his growth, he grew like the proverbial weed.
Karate is healthy to do, it doesn't cause harm is it is taught properly.
@ ada: who the hell are you, and what truth did I utter that has you so afraid of what I post?
You are a new troll account, so what is up with suddenly trolling me?
Yes its true. Don't do karate. They did a study in China with 2 twins. One took kung fu and one did not. When they were 18, the kung fu one was 5'2 and the other was 7'1.
Stay in school. In fact never leave. Cause you obviously need to learn some basic knowledge.
I hope this is a joke and/or troll bait.
If real, that teacher should be fired as any teacher that ignorant shouldn't be teaching others their stupidity
Of course that's not true. I mean, come on, how would that be possible.
I have been advised by a teacher that, child, who goes for karate training, will never grew more than 5 or 5.2". Is it true? any one has the examples or ever read anywhere.....my kid is going for karate...pls send your suggestions.....
hell no ...!!! man i joined taekwondo long time ago and my height is 6ft2in
Don't worry, not true.
As martial artist we don't know if that is really true.
